In conjunction with Diskette//Rosette, artist Camila Galaz will lead a FREE hands-on zine-making workshop exploring the language and imagery of early computer advertising.
Working with photocopies of these original 1980s advertisements, participants will cut up and recombine words, phrases, and images to create a one-page zine to take home. Transforming mass-market advertising into handmade, self-authored forms, participants will explore how computers were introduced to the public through promises about work, creativity, gender, and the future, and reflect on how we relate to technology today.
No previous zine-making or art experience is necessary. All materials will be provided, and participants will leave with their own handmade zine.
